Representation
Our membership is made up of disabled people or carers for disabled people. Therefore we believe we have the experience within the organisation to ensure that disability is on the agenda and can represent the general views of the disabled population of Somerset.
We sit on many panels and groups to ensure that these views are taken into consideration .
We currently have SAIN representatives on the following boards, panels and groups.
Active Living Board Meeting
This group oversees active living for people over 50 in Somerset. It has responsibility for the active living centres and inter-generational work amongst other things. We currently sit on this board to promote older disabled peoples views and equality issues generally.

Bridgwater Challenge
This project is looking at the future development of Bridgwater, we keep in contact with this project to ensure that disabled peoples needs are taken into consideration in any future developments.
Building Schools for the future - Bridgwater
Bridgwater is building 4 new schools as part of this programme, we keep in touch with the programme to ensure that disabled peoples needs are taken into consideration.
Community Cohesion Forum
This group is a partnership of all the equality strand representatives, public bodies and private sector who look to work together to promote community cohesion in Somerset. Richard Pitman (our CEO) is currently the chair of this group.
Compact Somerset
The compact is a document which outlines how public bodies an voluntary sector organisations should work together. Compact Somerset get together on occasions to review the document.
Equality South West
This is a regional organisation that promotes equality issues through many different avenues. Richard Pitman currently sits on the board of Equality South West in his role as chair of South West Disability Equality Network (see below)

South West Disability Equality Network
This group brings together all the disabled peoples organisations in the south west who are members. The aim of the group is to promote disabled peoples organisations issues and create a collective approach to these.

Somerset County Council - Halcon Steering Group
To provide representation on the Social Services/Somerset Care Ltd partnership board for Halcon users.
NHS Somerset - Local Implementation Team for Long Term Conditions
This group works to implement the paper on services for people with long term conditions over a ten year period.
NHS Somerset Equality & Diversity Steering Group
We sit on this group as the disabled peoples representatives on disability issues.
NHS Somerset - Personalised Health Budgets Project Group
This group is an implementation group for a pilot project on the implementation of personalised health budgets.
Avon and Somerset Police - Disability Advisory Group
This group looks to address disability issues and raise awareness within the Police Force. We sit on this group amongst many other organisations across the force area.
Avon and Somerset Police - Independent Advisory Group West
This group is established to support the Police in an advisory capacity on local issues.
Avon and Somerset Police - Indepedent Advisory Group East
This group is established to support the Police in an advisory capacity on local issues.
Self Directed Support Management Group
A steering group on the implementation of self directed care in Somerset.
Sedgemoor District Council Equalities and Diversity Board
We sit on this board to represent all equalities issues in this partnership between Sedgemoor District Council and Homes in Sedgemoor.
Somerset County Council - 2012 Team Somerset
This group is involved with Somerset's involvement in the 2012 Olympics and Para Olympics. We sit on this group as both the representative for disabled people and equalities issues.

Somerset County Council - Joint Equipment Service
Oversees and reviews the tendering of the Joint Equipment Service.
Somerset County Council - Local Employment Partnership
This is a Somerset County Council led group which looks at local employment issues and works to achieve targets of employing people within Somerset County Council.
Somerset County Council - Personalisation Workforce Transformation Project
As part of the transformation agenda we sit on the above group to looking at workforce development.
Somerset County Council - Safeguarding Adults
This group looks at safeguarding issues regarding vulnerable people in Somerset, we keep in contact with this group as part of our role as an organisation.
Somerset County Council - Sensory Loss Project Steering Group
This group is overseeing the implementation of the Sensory Loss Review, we sit on the group as the user and voluntary sector representatives.
Somerset County Council - Sensory Loss Stakeholder Group
As part of the Sensory Loss Review this group looks to ensure that the views of the stakeholders are implemented into the review.
Somerset County Council - Service Delivery Board
To support the County Council in ensuring service delivery is fair, accessible and free from dsicrimination. To offer guidance and advice to support delivery of the Corporate Equalities Plan.
Somerset Strategic Partnership Forum
The partnership brings together organisations from the voluntary, public and business sectors to look at many different aspects of life within Somerset. Richard Pitman (our CEO) sits on this group in his capacity as chair of the Community Cohesion Forum.
